Akwasi Aidoo is the founding executive director of TrustAfrica, a foundation dedicated to advancing inclusive development and democratic governance in Africa. His previous positions include head of the International Development Research Centre’s (IDRC) program on health and equity in West and Central Africa, head of the Ford Foundation’s office for West Africa, and director of the Ford Foundation’s Special Initiative for Africa. He is the chair of the boards of Resource Alliance, Fund for Global Human Rights and Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA). He also sits on the boards of the African Grantmakers Network and Society for International Development and previously served as a trustee of several international organizations, including OXFAM America.
Aidoo has taught at universities in Ghana, Tanzania and the United States. He was educated in Ghana and the United States and received a PhD in Medical Sociology from the University of Connecticut in 1985. He writes poetry and short stories in his spare time.
