Richard Woo is the Chief Executive Officer of The Russell Family Foundation in Gig Harbor, Washington. The Foundation was founded by George and Jane Russell with their children upon the sale of their Tacoma-based financial services firm, Russell Investments. Mr. Woo volunteers on the board of directors for the Council on Foundations (COF) and Philanthropy Northwest. He also serves on COF’s Socially-Responsible Investing Task Force, the national executive committee of the Diversity in Philanthropy Project, and the Leadership Committee of the “2% Campaign” (challenging foundations to commit 2 percent of assets to social investments). Before joining The Russell Family Foundation in 2000, Mr. Woo worked for nearly twelve years at Levi Strauss and Co. in San Francisco in community relations, corporate social responsibility and philanthropy. In his last three years there he served as Executive Director of the Levi Strauss Foundation. Earlier in his career, Richard spent fourteen years working in Northern California nonprofit organizations specializing in community health education and youth development.
