Stephen Colwell

Stephen Colwell is the executive director of Sea Change Foundation, a private foundation based in San Francisco that is focused on combating the causes of climate change and helping to create a clean energy future. He has been engaged in conservation and philanthropy for over fifteen years, having served as executive director of the Coral Reef Alliance and the Ocean Foundation, and as an advisor to some of the nation’s leading environmental organizations and grantmakers, including The David & Lucile Packard, Gordon & Betty Moore Foundations and a number of other family foundations in addition to Sea Change Foundation

Colwell has a master’s degree in management from Stanford, a law degree from UC Berkeley, a master’s in education from The George Washington University and was a Woodrow Wilson Scholar as an undergraduate at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. He has been awarded a Gerbode Foundation Fellowship, a Stanford University Sloan Fellowship in Nonprofit Management, and the Robert Rodale Environment Award and served on the boards of a variety of non-profit organizations.
